Hutchinson Consulting Engineers were engaged by Auckland Transport for the upgrade of the carpark and accessway at Te Kia Ora Marae on the Kaipara Coast Highway. Working alongside Marae representatives, the design provides 84 carparks, 3 bus parks and 4 accessible parks, allowing the Marae to operate at full capacity, with room for future expansion.
Hutchinson completed the geotechnical investigation, survey, pavement design and carpark layout. With more than 30 spaces triggering Auckland Unitary Plan stormwater treatment requirements, a cost-effective, low-maintenance solution of grassed swales was designed to treat runoff through natural filtration.
A series of pavement options were evaluated with costs and maintenance implications so the most economical solution could be selected. Hutchinson then provided construction phase services through to a successful completion for Auckland Transport and the Marae.
