Hutchinson Consulting Engineers were engaged by Auckland Council to address coastal erosion at Hadfield Reserve on Island Bay, where the shoreline was undermining the pedestrian access ramp and exposing public wastewater infrastructure.
The works comprised a new retaining structure to stabilise the access ramp and rock armouring along the foreshore to halt further erosion and protect the grassed reserve. The affected wastewater manhole and pipeline were assessed and repaired in coordination with Watercare.
Given the urgency, the seawall works were delivered as emergency works with resource consent obtained retrospectively, restoring safe public access quickly while securing the reserve for the long term.
