Outdoor Classroom, Ahuroa School

The Ahuroa School Outdoor Classroom was opened on the 19th of October 2018 and named “The Terence Berger Outdoor Classroom” after Maggie Hutchinson’s father, who was a foundation pupil of the school.

Maggie’s nephew Jacob Berger, being a third generation descendant of Terence Berger and student at the school, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony and a commemorative plaque donated by Maggie and Hutch is displayed on the northern deck handrail.

The Outdoor Classroom provides a multi-level timber deck structure, under the cover of existing Totara trees, for educational and recreational use by the school students.

Our office involvement with the Outdoor Classroom included geotechnical investigation and reporting, structural design, drawings, consenting, and construction monitoring through to completion, and these were donated as pro-bono services to this worthy community project.
