Designed by Frank Stanton from Dream Planning, this Mangawhai bach was featured on the TV series Grand Designs and all aspects of the construction process were documented by a film crew.
The architectural design incorporates a wide array of recycled materials from all sorts of historical structures around New Zealand, including hardwood Ironbark timbers from a wharf in Nelson, steel plates cut and flattened from tanks from a Waihi Mine shaft, and recycled masonry veneer bricks. Hutchinson’s attention to documentation, and persistence with obtaining necessary certifications of all material properties on behalf of the homeowners was highly commended by architect and owner alike.
I would like to thank you and Gareth for all your extremely professional assistance during the two separate projects you were involved with me on, it has been a real pleasure to work with people with such great enthusiasm and efficiency!F. Stanton
