Hutchinson Consulting Engineers were engaged by Auckland Council to provide structural and geotechnical engineering services for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge in Green Road Park, Dairy Flat, part of a wider development of this 154-hectare future park.
The bridge crosses an overland flow path on a future walking and cycling route, in low-lying, flood-prone terrain with variable alluvial ground conditions. The 6.7m long precast concrete structure is supported on reinforced concrete abutments founded on driven piles into weathered rock, with timber wing walls and engineered approaches protecting against scour during high flows.
With the site located 900m from the road and accessed via farm tracks, constructability and environmental impact were key design drivers. The result is a robust, low-maintenance structure aligned with the park’s long-term recreational vision.
