Narrow Neck Beach Seawall, Devonport
The original 185m long concrete sheet pile seawall at Narrow Neck Beach was constructed in 1929 and was in desperate need of repair, having been subject to very little maintenance over time and being positioned in a very exposed tidal setting.
Hutchinson Consulting Engineers designed a comprehensive repair solution in 2021 that comprises the installation of a reinforced concrete face wall and capping beam, tied back into the existing ground beam and dead man anchors.
In early 2022 the physical works were awarded to experienced coastal infrastructure contractors, who managed the arduous task of constructing sections of the wall in discrete pours around tides, weather events and public use of the beach however the remedial works were eventually completed to a very high-quality standard.
